[Bellamy spends a lot of time in the library. This is not news. Next to his own apartment, it's probably his favorite place to be in this world. Books continue to be novel to him, even when he's surrounded by them.]
[If he likes to be in the mythology section, well no one's called him out on it just yet.]
[When the girl starts jumping for the book, he's not unawares. He's far enough away at this moment to avoid making a comment or even offering some help, but not far away enough to avoid conversation when it happens. Not that he's annoyed, exactly, but he does just raise an eyebrow at her initially.]
Why? [There is nothing about him that screams being overwhelmingly busy. He looks amused more than anything else, because he knows what she's going to ask, it's so very obvious, but he can't resist meeting her smile with a little teasing. He is kind of an ass, but at least it's good natured this time.] Something a little out of reach?
[He could have at least pretended a little harder!!! But she's hardly impressed with his raised eyebrow and instead she takes his teasing with grace even if she fixes him with a mock pout.
At least he won't be grumpy about this. That's something. She can deal with people who are kind of an ass.]
It wouldn't be so out of reach if somebody were nice enough to try and help a girl out. What do you say?
[But that would be giving in!! Or something. He has no idea, he just likes to be contradictory sometimes, and the mock pout he gets makes him think it was not the worst response.]
[He shifts over casually, putting himself into better view of the section she was trying to reach and grab to no avail. The fact that it's the mythology section is not lost on him, and it does make him curious too.]
[She seems far too pleased with herself when Bellamy joins her and she takes a step back, pointing up at a book that's partially sticking out of the shelf. It's definitely old, spine cracking and blue coloring starting to fade but clearly labeled "The Elements of Creation."]
That one sounds like it might have what I'm looking for. I don't know a ton about mythology in most other worlds, but it looks basic enough to answer a few questions.
[Bellamy picks it out of the row right away, squinting a little at the title, but he is very tall, so it's not very hard for him to just reach out and take it off the shelf. His own curiosity wins out before he hands it over, taking a quick glance at the cover and flipping through a few pages; the oldness isn't lost on him, and his grip on the book is careful.]
I feel like the 'Elements' can still be different enough from world to world. Even back home different cultures had different core elements.
[He goes back to crossing his arms, an easy and comfortable stance. At least this time he slips into it more out of familiarity than the need to be offputting.]
China had metal too, didn't it? Maybe wood. I mean, those four are pretty standard, but I think there's still room for differences.
Maybe that's true, but this planet seems to only focus on the standards. You've heard what they say about us, haven't you? That we're split into one of the four elements? I want to see if there's any kind of reasoning behind how people are usually split. Maybe I can find out which one I am.
That's what I'm not sure about. People have mentioned the four spirits that are here--they each have their own shrine and everything--and they say that all of us belong to one of them. A lot of people know who their patron or whatever is, but only because they were all separated and kidnapped by them months ago. The rest of us are stuck without really knowing.
[Unknown to Rise, she could go ask literally any one of them and find out. But that's not what Rock Lee told her. (She really shouldn't listen to Rock Lee sometimes.)]
Something like that. [Bellamy r u ok.] I don't know how since you'd think we'd remember something like that. [But she nods suddenly, another quirk of her lips the moment she sees Bellamy understands.]
That's exactly what I'm looking for! I've never thought about it before, but Lee-san told me he's one of the Earth spirit's people or whatever. I don't think that's me though.
[He hates it on principle when someone tries to dictate anything about his life, ok???] Maybe there's a reason they don't want us to know.
[His expression turns a little thoughtful.] Have you noticed any patterns, in any of the other people who know? Like if anyone else is Earth, maybe they have things in common with your friend.
[a beat.] Unless there's a chance it's not related at all but - I've noticed that sort of thing lends itself to beliefs or traits. The book's probably a good start.
They let a bunch of people know once. [She turns the page.] But that was before me.
[It's a good thought though and she pauses to think. If she knew that Leon Magnus was earth, she'd probably shriek about how he's nothing like Rock Lee. However, she's thinking about what Yu is and recalls that Dipper's the same.]
The fire boys that I know all tend to be the same. Leader-types who charge ahead even if it's dangerous. But otherwise I can't think of too many patterns. [A shrug.] There could be a chance it's not related at all but I'm hoping that's not true. Why else would they sort us purposefully?
[He's - mostly - patient while she thinks and listens, crossing his arms. When she finishes, he immediately thinks about the court system in the Drabwurld, but it's still a moment of hesitation before he brings it up.]
I was in a world before this, we were split up between two courts, and a lot of it had to do with our beliefs. I'm not sure elements correspond the same way, but yeah, I find it hard to believe it's randomized. Spirits don't seem particularly inclined towards randomization either.
Really? What kind of beliefs? Maybe the spirits don't go under the same kind of thing but it could help figure out what kind of person you might be according to them. Does that make sense?

You think so? I thought all worlds have the core elements of air, water, fire and earth.

[He nods at the book.] So what, are you looking for elemental characteristics? Signs that might point towards whichever spirit claimed you?
