( hart hunt )

[Bellamy wonders how much of his ability to hunt was instinctual and how much of it was pushed on him in a crisis. He fell into the slot with the 100 more easily than expected, and part of that was because he had more actual weapons and fighting training than - literally anyone else. While they'd all been in lockup, he'd started up with the guard, and even if he never went beyond cadet, it still gave him a leg up. He was valuable; he taught his people to wield knives and axes, and together they created hunting parties that brought back food to keep everyone alive. He was part of that, crucial to that, and sometimes he needs that reminder.]

[He's kept it up here, bringing meat back to his house at the third spire - especially so after the Cult began hunting him and he trusted so little outside food or drink. So when the Hart Hunt is announced, he figures: why not? Even if he fails, it could be a learning experience, and if there is anything Bellamy respects in this world or any other, it's death.]

[And he's still good. Out of everything the Drabwurld has thrown at him, this is familiar. He is quiet through the woods, carrying a cross bow, several knives, and an axe. Swords and javelins are might be better in a fight, but they're a lot bigger and harder to move stealthily with. Besides, it's knives and axes that he's best with, and he needs to bring his best to this.]

[Company won't have much luck sneaking up on him; every little sound draws his attention (from the Cult and the Hunt both, he thinks). He wears the winter coat from Clarke in the cold, heavy enough to keep him warm but light enough that it doesn't slow him down as he moves between the trees quietly, watching for targets.]

[He might be looking for the Hart, but it's a dinner hunt all the same too.]
