[ben's hunting skills are dismal, at best. he has a good pile going on, at least four or five, and while it may look like he's doing okay, he's only doing okay because of the way he's been trying to kill them. he's not going to have any of them eat up the crop (everyone is having a tough enough time as it is) and while he can't stop all of them, he can do his best.
which is why he's resorting to taunting them and then stabbing them when they're close enough. during the whole process of taunt and kill, however, he sees bellamy, and can't help but watch. never witnessed anyone throw an axe like that, and it's definitely a better technique than what he's been doing.
he walks closer, and unbeknownst to him, has a couple of swans waddling behind him as he goes. one nips at his pants, and that is just it. so maybe he needs a better solution to how he hunts them, but in this particular moment, it doesn't matter. he leaves them no room for escape, and with one swoop of his sword, he decapitates the both of them. he straightens, decides he may as well grab the axe from the swan's back, too, and holds it out to bellamy without a word.]
