I'm sorry.

( the apology is genuine and whether it's for her lack of reassurance or for what she's about to tell him, it's debatable.

Clarke takes a deep breath, closing her eyes to sort her thoughts; she's still working on processing it herself. )

When I was in the mountain with Hiro we were separated. I didn't put on my mage armour from Grell, because I didn't think I'd need to worry about it in there. But- Hiro and I were separated, I ran into some Seelie soldiers, and... ( there's a phantom pain in her side; she can still remember how it felt, the pain, the helplessness, the taste of Katherine's blood in her mouth. she has to breathe again; thinking about blood is not about to help. ) I didn't get away safely. The wound- It was bad, I lost too much blood, I couldn't even do magic because I was so weak.

Someone named Katherine that I taught magic to found me, she's a vampire, her blood has healing properties. She fed some to me and it healed me, made sure that I stayed alive.

( for that, well- she'll never be able to repay her. )

I went and found Hiro again after that, I wanted to take it easy, not run into any other enemies, so we found an alcove tucked away. I had... an idea to try and bring Jason back. I had his shard with me, and I thought- If there was any way to tie him back to this world, it would be by activating his shard near the gem. I thought if I activated mine and tried to reactivate his, that the gem might make the connection again and bring him back.

( she failed; it's obvious she failed, or Jason would likely be with her right now, or Bellamy would have received an ecstatic call about it. )

Turns out that trying to reactivate dead shards is the least smart thing you can do with shard testing.
